Inventory Management: New functions in Retail

As a result of requirements from the retail sector (SAP Retail), Release 4.0A includes the following new functions:

SAP Retail 1.2B did not contain:

Creation and splitting up of structured materials (Retail only)

You can only use this function if you use

SAP Retail.

By making transfer posting using special movement types, you can split up the header material of a structured material (such as a prepack or display) into its components or collapse the individual components to the header material.

Your system can be configured to have the header material split up automatically in the purchase order or at goods receipt. You can also use this function if Warehouse Management (WM) is active.

Using movement type 317, you can collapse the individual components of a structured material to create a header material. The stock of the header material is increased and the stock of the components reduced. Reversal movement type 318 reverses the transaction.
You enter a transfer posting to create a box of structured material S, which comprises components K1 and K2. The following material document items are created:
Quantity Unit Material Movement type
1 Box S 317 +
4 Piece K1 317 -
5 Piece K2 317 -
Using the movement type 319, you can split up a structured material (for example, prepack or display) in to its component parts. The material is splitt automatically in the purchase order or at goods receipt if the appropriate setting is made in Customizing.

The stock of the BOM header material is debited and the constituent components credited. Reversal movement type 320 reverses the transaction.

A box of structured material S contains 3 pieces of component K1 and 4 pieces of component K2. When you split up the box, the following material document items are created:
Quantity Unit Material Movement type
1 Box S 101 +
1 Box S 319 -
4 Box K1 319 +
5 Box K2 319 +

Variant matrix for generic materials

You can only use this function if you use

SAP Retail.

When you enter a goods movement for a generic material, a screen appears for you to enter the variants. If you have two variants, you can use the variant matrix screen. Alternatively, you can display all the variants as a list.

One-step procedure for stock transport orders

When you post a goods issue for a stock transport order in an issuing plant, you can post the goods receipt in the receiving plant at the same time, providing you have made the required setting for this particular combination of issuing and receiving plant in Customizing.

For further information, please see the release note One-step procedure for stock transport orders .

Value-only materials (basic functions)

Materials can be grouped together for inventory management purposes. Every group is assigned a value-only material to which all goods movements for all the materials in the group are posted.

Groups can be created at the following levels:

Sales price valuation must be active for the materials in the group. Usually, you do not have to manage the stock on a quantity basis.

Each plant is assigned a profile that controls how inventory is managed in that plant. This gives you the flexibility to decide which type of Inventory Management is allowed in each plant. Inventory Management profiles are maintained in Customizing.

Freely definable value-only materials for inventory management

A new indicator has been added to the Inventory Management profiles, allowing you to use any value-only material of your choice for value-based inventory management.

If you select this indicator, it affects the plants to which the profile has been assigned in the following way: when you assign value-only materials to material groups in any of the plants, the system no longer compares with assignment with the material group hierarchy.

You assigned plant R001 profile 0003 (with inventory always managed at material-group material level). If you select the indicator allowing you to freely define the value-only material, you can assign the "ladies' fashion" material group the value-only material of a different material group (such as "men's fashion").
