Extended Selection Screen: Selection using Hierarchies

Description

In Release 4.0A, an extended selection screen is available in every standard analysis, as part of the function All selections. This enables you to enter selection criteria by means of hierarchies.

Up till now, only hierachies of the general hierarchy category were supported.

You have two options for making selections using hierarchies.

The first option allows you to use hierarchies to enter selection criteria for the characteristics and period to analyze. This makes it easier to select characteristic values because the characteristic values are copied from hierarchies into the selection screen.

The second option enables you to restrict the scope of the analysis by using hierarchy nodes for a suitable characteristic. Here the characteristic values of the selected hierachy node are not copied to the selection screen, but instead the hiearchy node itself.

Selecting Characteristic Values

This function allows you to use hierarchies to enter selection criteria for the characteristics and period to analyze in the selection screen. When you select the pushbutton 'Choose using hierarchy', a list appears containing the hierarchies that you can use to make your selection.
If the function is inactive, this means that no suitable hierarchies exist in the system as yet for the characteristics or the period to analyze.

Once you have chosen a hierarchy, it is displayed as a tree in a dialog box. Now you can choose any of the individual subtrees or nodes of the tree. After you have made your selection, the chosen characterstics are copied to the selection screen.

If you have already made entries in the selection screen before you choose a specific hierarachy, this is overwritten after you have given confirmation.

Restricting the Scope of the Analysis

In this function, the characteristics values are not explicitly copied to the selection screen, but a subtree or the entire hierarchy is displayed for selection. Once you have chosen a hierarchy, this is displayed as a tree in a dialog box. here you can choose a subtree/node which is then entered in the selection screen as hierarchy nodes.

If you have already entered selection criteria for the characteristic in question, this is overwritten after you have given confirmation. If you have chosen a hierarchy node, the input fields for the respective characteristic are no longer available for input, in order to prevent any further manual changes being made for this characteristic.

The corresponding values of the selected subtree of the hierarchy are not calculated until the analysis is started, and they act as selection crietria for the characteristic which refers to the hierarchy. If a hierarchy changes in the R/3 System, these changes take effect at the time of selection.
