Storage Location and Supply Area
Determination in BOM Explosion
Description
In Customizing for MRP or for Repetitive Manufacturing, in step
Define Storage
Location and Supply Area Determination for BOM
Explosion, you define the strategy the system is to
use to find the issue storage location from which the components
are withdrawn in MRP and in backflushing. This logic is also used
for determining the supply area.
In BOM explosion, the system tries to find a storage location in
the BOM item (component). If no issue storage location has been
defined for the BOM item, the system reads the MRP group of the
assembly or of the finished product and so determines the strategy
for storage location or
supply area determination.
The following strategies for storage location determination are
available:
In Customizing, if you select indicator 1 Only
component, then the system searches for the issue storage
location maintained for the material in the material master record.
This storage location is then used as the issue storage location
and is displayed in the component list.
You use this procedure for
determining the issue location if you always withdraw one component
from one specific storage location.
If you select indicator 2 Only assembly, then
the system checks to see whether the proposal issue
location has been maintained in the production
version of the produced assembly or finished product. If the
proposal issue location has been maintained, this location is used
as the issue storage location for all components and is displayed
in the component list.
If no proposal issue location has
been maintained, the system uses the receiving storage location of
the assembly or the finished product as the issue storage location
for the components. The receiving storage location may be
maintained in the production version of the assembly in the field
Issue storage location or in the material
master record of the assembly in the field To
location or in the the material master record for the
assembly in the field Issue. stor.
location . If none of these entries have been
maintained, the system can also use the 'to location' in the
backflushing transaction for Repetitive Manufacturing as the issue
storage location for the components.
You use this procedure for
determining the issue storage location if all the components lie
together at a storage location close to the production line where
they are needed.
If you select indicator 3, 1st component / 2nd
assembly, then the system first proceeds as described for
indicator 1. If it does not find an issue location using this
strategy, it then proceeds as described for indicator 2.
If you select indicator 4, 1st assembly / 2nd
component, then the system first proceeds as described for
indicator 2. If it does not find an issue location using this
strategy, it then proceeds as described for indicator 1.
Change system parameters in customizing
You define the strategy for storage location determination with
in Customizing for Repetitive Manufacturing or for MRP. No
indicator has been maintained in the SAP standard system.
