With Release 4.0, the following changes have been made to the
format object in the R/3 spool system:
Naming convention removed: The naming conventions required in
previous Releases have been lifted. Formats names are now
freely-selectable. Formats are identified by purpose instead by a
new type classification. The new classification is delivered
pre-set for all standard formats; no maintenance is required.
Format actions: Before Release 4.0A, these objects were called
"device formats". To make the role of these objects in formatting
R/3 documents clearer, they have been renamed as Format actions.
They are now accessible by way of the Device type maintenance,
Formats by device type screen. Format actions help to implement a
format at a particular output device by issuing sets of
device-specific commands for such purposes as device
initialization.
