Changes to R/3 Spool Server and Work
The following enhancements have been made in Release 4.0A to the
implementation of R/3 spool servers and work processes:
Multiple spool work processes per server: Prior to Release
4.0A, a spool server could have only one spool work process. This
limitation could produce delays in processing output requests if
the spool work process was slowed by communication problems or
large output requests. This limitation has now been removed. With
multiple spool work processes, a spool server can now usually
process spool output requests in parallel.
Server attributes and logical servers: It is now possible to
define attributes for spool servers. These include a classification
of the server with respect to the type of printer served (high
priority, bulk printing, low-priority desktop printing...);
specification of a substitute server to take over output request
processing should the first server fail; and specification of a
logical server for potential load-balancing and other
