Configuring External R/3 Systems


External systems are a special form of virtual systems. A real R/3 System is used in their place to perform actions on the transport directory. They are different to virtual systems in that they have their own, freely selectable transport directory.

To configure an external system, proceed as follows:

  1. Log onto the R/3 System acting as the domain controller.
  2. Call transaction STMS.
  3. Choose Overview ® Systems.
  4. This takes you to the system overview.

  5. Choose R/3 System ® Create ® External system.
  6. The TMS: Configure external system dialog box appears.

  7. Enter the path and a short description of the transport directory.
  8. Enter the transport directory path for the specific platform and relative to the communications system. The domain controller is proposed as the communications system.

  9. Save your entries and confirm the prompt as to whether the configuration change should be distributed.

An external system also has to be entered in the configuration file TPPARAM. The subdirectories required are not created automatically in the specified transport directory.
