Configuring the Backup Domain Controller

In a transport domain, the R/3 System which is configured as the domain controller is of special signifance. If this R/3 System fails, no changes can be made to the TMS configuration during this time. SAP therefore recommends that you configure a backup domain controller if your transport domain contains more than three R/3 Systems. If your domain controller fails, the backup controller can assume the function of the domain controller.

The R/3 System which you set up as the backup controller must be at least 3.1H and should have the same security precautions as the domain controller.

To configure a backup domain controller, proceed as follows:

  1. Log onto the R/3 System acting as the domain controller.
  2. Call transaction STMS.
  3. Choose Overview ® Systems.
  4. This takes you to the system overview.

  5. Position the cursor on the domain controller.
  6. Choose R/3 System ® Change.
  7. The Change TMS Configuration: System <SID> screen appears.

  8. Enter the R/3 System which should be used as the backup controller of your transport domain in the Backup field.
  9. Save your entries and distribute the configuration change.

If you want to change the domain controller to another R/3 System in the transport domain, configure the new R/3 System as the backup controller. Then activate the backup controller as the domain controller.
