Starting an Import

Prerequisites

Before you import all requests in the import queue into an R/3 System, you must ensure that no users are working in this R/3 System. Therefore inform your users about the import times early on by creating a system message, for example.

To prevent change requests from being placed in the import queue shortly before the import, and therefore perhaps being imported unintentionally, SAP recommends closing the import queue before the import.

Procedure

To import all requests in the import queue, proceed as follows:

  1. Call transaction STMS.
  2. Choose Overview ® Imports.
  3. This takes you to the import overview.

  4. Position the cursor on the R/3 System whose import queue you want to import.
  5. Choose Import queue ® Display.
  6. This takes you to the import queue of the selected R/3 System.

Requests shown in color are not imported. This does not apply to preliminary imports.

  7. Now choose Queue ® Start import.
  8. The Start Import dialog box appears.

  9. Enter the target client, if your transport route configuration requires this. Use F4 to display a list of the target clients available.
  10. Choose Start import and confirm the prompt.
  11. If you start the import from another R/3 System in the transport domain, a logon window from the target system is displayed. Your user name is already entered by default.
  12. Enter your password.

The target client and the logon language are irrelevant here.

Result

The TMS now starts the transport control program in the target system. So that your session is not blocked for the duration of the entire import, tp is started in the background. You now receive a message that the import has been started.

As long as the import is running, this is indicated in the import overview by the icon. After the import, the import queue is opened again automatically by the transport control program.

The following tools are available for monitoring the import:
