With another costing variant, you determine how the confirmed
activities in the PP module are valuated. Actual costs are
calculated automatically with each confirmation.
The costing variant forms the link between the application and
Customizing, since costing is always carried out and cost estimates
saved with reference to a costing variant. The costing variants are
proposed through the order type and the plant and can be changed in
the order header.
The costing variant for the planned costs controls what prices
are used to valuate the materials, internal activities and external

The valuation variants contain
strategy sequences for the selection of prices from the material
master record and activity prices from Cost Center Accounting. The
strategy sequence for the material prices only play a role with
preliminary costing (planned costs).
While it is technically possible to have costing variants with
the same costing type and valuation variant, this should be avoided
to prevent possible overwriting of data.
This is because the key structure for the costing results in the
database uses the costing type and the valuation variant, and not
the costing variant.
The standard system contains two predefined costing
