Define Quantity-Based Overhead

An overhead determines the conditions under which overhead is applied to an object, and the level of overhead to be applied.

In this step you define quantity-based overhead, such as $100 per piece. In addition, you can define percentage overhead (such as 25% in controlling area 0001).

You must assign a condition to each overhead. Using this condition, the SAP System can access the relevant condition fields in the appropriate condition tables.

Both plan and actual overhead can be calculated. The overhead type distinguishes betwenn plan and actual overhead.

Standard settings

The standard SAP System contains overhead with the following dependencies:

To define order-dependent overhead, you create an overhead key and enter this key in the order.

To define product-dependent overhead, create an overhead key and link this key to an overhead group. This group is then entered in the costing view of the material master record.

To define a quantity-based overhead, proceed as follows:

1. Choose "Create" to create a new overhead.
2. Enter a four-character identification code and a description for the new overhead and assign a condition to it.
3. Choose "Enter".
The new overhead is added to the overview.
4. Place the cursor on the required entry and choose "Enter".
5. Specify the individual overhead rates.
Each record consists of a validity period, several condition fields taken from the condition tables, and an amount to be charged to the cost bases as overhead.
6. Save your overhead.

To check the overhead from the costing sheet, choose "Goto -> Quantity-based overhead".

Further notes

To calculate quantity-dependent overhead, the units of measure must be updated in CO.
