Archiving Log Files
You archive log files when you want to be able to keep them over a longer period of time. You can either archive them to tape or to ADSM.
All the log files up to and including the one you have selected are archived.
– To archive to ADSM, select ADSM.
In the Management class field, accept the default value DEFAULT. (At present, this value cannot be changed.)
– To archive to tape, select Tape.
In the Tape device field, enter the name of your tape device or select one of the tape devices offered. (A list of tape devices detected by the Control Center is displayed, for example the UNIX tape device /dev/rmt0 or the NT device /dev/nmt0 .)
In the Tape field, enter the name of the tape to be used for archiving or select one of the tape names displayed.
"Synchronous execution" means that archiving takes place immediately and that the Control Center waits for it to complete. "Asynchronous execution" means that the archiving process is passed to the server and that the Control Center does not wait for it to complete. In the latter case, you can start using the Control Center again immediately.
