Activating Commitments Management

You must activate commitment management before you can use it.

You activate commitments management:

You do not need to activate commitments management separately for projects or work breakdown structures (WBS). You must activate commitments management for each network type, for networks, which in addition to the WBS functions, also belong to the Project System application.

Activating Commitments Management for Controlling Areas

  1. Go to the Implementation Guide and choose:
  2. – For internal orders:
    Activate order management for controlling area

    – For the Project System
    Costs ® Activate Project Management in Controlling

    – For Cost Center Accounting
    Costs ® Activate Cost Center Accounting in Controlling

    The system displays the Maintain Controlling Area overview screen.

  3. Position the cursor on the controlling area for which you want to activate commitments management.
  4. Choose Control indicator.
    The system then displays the Control indicators dialog box.
  5. Enter 1 (for "active") in the Commitments management field and save your entries.

Activating Commitments Management for Order/Network Types

  1. Choose
  2. – In the Overhead Orders implementation guide
    Order Master Data ® Define Order Types.

    – In the Project System implementation guide
    Structures ® Operative structures ® Network ® Settings for networks ® Maintain network types.

    The system displays the Maintain Order Types overview screen.

  3. Position the cursor on the order/network type for which you want to activate commitments management.
  4. Choose Detail.
    The system displays the Maintain Order Types: Detail screen.
  5. In the Control indicators field group, choose the Commitments management indicator and save your entries.

Activate Commitments Management for Cost Center Types (Default Value for Cost Centers)

  1. In the Cost Center Accounting implementation guide, choose
    Master Data
    ® Cost Centers ® Maintain Cost Center Categories.
  2. The system displays the Change Cost Center Types: Overview screen.

  3. Switch off the Lock commitments indicator in the row of the cost center type for which you want to activate commitments management. Save your entries.

You have activated commitments management for the selected cost element. This setting is then used as the default value when you create new cost centers. You can, however, switch commitments management on or off , as desired, for each individual cost center.

Activating Commitments Management for Cost Centers

  1. In the Cost Center Accounting task level menu, choose Master data ® Cost center ® Create/Change.
  2. In the Basic Screen, choose Indicators.

If the commitment update locking indicator is active, no commitments are updated in the cost center. Change the settings for commitment update if you want. Save your entries.
